Katoh Gakuen Gyoshu Elementary School was founded as the very first “Open Plan School” in Japan in 1972. Our school’s motto is “developing independent, creative individuals for the 21st century” and based upon our educational goals; “Respect individuals,” “Cultivate their spontaneous creativity,” and “Provide global education.”
Our educational practice features individualized instruction in small groups, comprehensive personal care for each student supported by the flexible implementation of group instruction, education to develop “a globally minded person with a strong Japanese identity” and practical English proficiency, and computer education in response to an IT society. Furthermore, in order to foster individual talent, we have implemented various approaches such as a special program for gifted children where the students can flexibly learn the educational content of higher grades.
Moreover, in 1992, we became the first school in Japan to introduce “an English Immersion Program where students learn various subjects (such as math and science) in English.” We aim to cultivate independent and globally minded individuals by providing two distinctive courses; “Regular” and “Immersion.”
Nowadays, the existing standardized education has been questioned and the importance of an education which respects individuality has been emphasized by the whole society. We will continue on our course for the further development by being at the forefront of education in Japan.
